How do you want your codebook made?
Coordinates are worked out automatically, in your browser. You print the codebook for your trusted person — only the encrypted coordinates are ever sent to us, never your secret or codebook.
You print a blank codebook template, fill all 100 cells by hand — one digit per cell (or one character, for passwords) — then look up each coordinate yourself and type it in. Your codebook and secret never touch a computer: the most paranoid option, and the most manual.
Your secret
Enter the number or PIN you want to protect — 1 to 10 digits. deadkey.net will generate a random codebook and work out the coordinates for it, entirely in your browser.
Digits only, 1–10 of them.
—
✓ Codebook generated. If you'd like, press the button a few more times if you want to increase randomness.
Confirm this is the secret you intend to protect. deadkey.net does not store it anywhere and cannot check it for you later — a mistyped digit cannot be fixed without starting this record over.
Your codebook is ready — you'll see it and print it on the last step, along with the rest of your papers.
Your codebook stays on paper, always
Print the blank codebook template, fill in cells 00 through 99 with your own digits by hand, then look up the coordinate for each digit of your secret. Type only those coordinates below — deadkey.net never sees your codebook or your secret.

- 1Print the blank codebook template and fill every one of the 100 cells with a single digit, 0–9, scattered with no obvious pattern.
- 2For each digit of your secret, find any cell holding that digit and write down its two-digit coordinate — row first, then column (row 3, column 7 → 37). Never reuse a cell for two digits of the same secret.
- 3Type only those coordinates below, in order, and validate them.
- 4Give the filled-in codebook to your trusted person, in person. Never photograph or type it into any computer.

The codebook does not make this harder to guess — it only changes who can read it. deadkey.net never sees your codebook or your secret, only the coordinates below, encrypted.
These coordinates are valid. You can continue.
Your password
Enter the password you want to protect — 1 to 20 characters, any mix of letters, digits, and symbols (no spaces). deadkey.net will generate a random codebook and work out the coordinates for it, entirely in your browser.
Letters, digits, and symbols — no spaces — 1 to 20 characters.

These coordinates repeat
One or more coordinates above appear more than once. That is allowed, but it means the server learns that your password repeats a character at those positions — a small leak. To avoid it, go back to your hand-made codebook and use a different cell for each repeated character (write duplicate entries so no repeated character shares a coordinate).
These coordinates are valid. You can continue.
Your seed phrase
deadkey.net cannot generate or see your seed phrase — for a crypto wallet, tin foil hat mode is the only option. You build a word grid by hand, on paper, then type in only the coordinates below. Your seed words never touch this page in any form.
This protects real funds
A seed phrase is the master key to your wallet. Whoever ends up holding your words — your trusted person, once they trigger and the countdown ends — has full control of the funds inside it, the same as you do today. Only ever hand your word grid to someone you would trust with the money itself. The word grid does not make your seed phrase harder to guess — it only changes who can read it, the same as the numeric and character codebooks.

- 1Print the blank codebook template and fill in all 100 cells with a word — your 12 or 24 seed words, scattered among BIP-39 decoy words for the rest, so your real words don't stand out. Use only real BIP-39 words as decoys (see suggestions below).
- 2For each word of your seed phrase, in order, find the cell holding that word and write down its two-digit coordinate — row first, then column (row 3, column 7 → 37). If a word repeats in your phrase and your grid only has one copy of it, you'll have to reuse that coordinate for the repeat — see the warning below about what that reveals.
- 3Type only those coordinates below, in the same order, and validate them.
- 4Give the filled-in word grid to your trusted person, in person. Never photograph, scan, or type it into any computer.
Suggested decoy words (optional helper)
These are random real BIP-39 words, generated in your browser — not secret, not connected to your wallet in any way. They're only here to help you fill the rest of your grid so your real seed words don't stand out. Copy as many as you need, press Shuffle for a new set, or use your own — any real BIP-39 word works. Contact info
Your own contact info is where the 10-day countdown warning and one-click cancel link will go if a trusted person ever triggers. Each trusted person also gets a designated lookup email of their own.
Shown to your trusted person(s) on their Recovery Sheet, so they know whose deadkey this is.
Where the countdown warning and cancel link are sent if a trusted person triggers.
Email verified ✓
Do not put your password, PIN, or seed phrase here. This note is only for instructions — where to look, or what the secret unlocks. It is shown to your trusted person as plain text; the secret itself stays protected by your codebook.
Check your details
Take a moment to confirm everything is right. Once you generate your papers, these can't be changed.
Pay special attention to each trusted person's email — it's how they look up this deadkey. If it's wrong, they can still retrieve later with the code on their Recovery Sheet, but a correct email means they also get a heads-up the moment it's ready.
Multiple trusted people note.
Backup trusted people add resilience — if one loses their paper or is unreachable, others can still trigger the deadkey. They do not add cryptographic security. Any single trusted person who triggers, and waits out the countdown, receives the coordinates deadkey.net stored for this record. Combined with their codebook, that is enough to recover your secret. Pick people you trust equally.
Once you press Generate, deadkey.net will generate a secure code on your computer. This takes 5-10 seconds.

Your deadkey is ready
Demo — this is a real deadkey, active for 15 days, then auto-deleted
It really works: your trusted person can trigger it and retrieve the secret. Because this is a demo there's no 10-day countdown — a trigger releases immediately. It's free and limited to one trusted person; if you opted into SMS/WhatsApp alerts, triggering sends you a real one. The whole record is deleted automatically after 15 days.
See the other half — try triggering it
To watch the whole lifecycle, take the trusted person's email and code from the Recovery Sheet below and open the Trigger page. In this demo the secret is released to you right away, so you see exactly what your trusted person would experience.
Print your receipt and the Recovery Sheet (with a codebook) for your trusted person.
In the real flow you'd keep these offline — print them and store the paper somewhere safe, and never leave a digital copy on your computer or in cloud storage.
